Malaysia ยท Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru sits directly across the Causeway from Singapore, and its economy is tied to its neighbour in every direction: commuters, shoppers, property buyers, investors and companies moving operations into the Iskandar Malaysia region. I serve clients in Malaysia and Singapore, and my photo and video business Bachmeijer, based in Woodlands just across the border, works on real estate photography and video in Johor Bahru.

The local business landscape

JB businesses serve two markets at once. Locally there is a fast-growing population and property market across areas such as the city centre, Iskandar Puteri, Mount Austin, Tebrau and Skudai. Across the border, Singaporeans come for dining, shopping, healthcare, car services and property. On the industrial side, data centres, manufacturing and logistics have grown strongly in Johor. The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the RTS Link between Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North, planned to start passenger service around the end of 2026, aim to make all of this easier.

How my services apply

  • Real estate photography and video through Bachmeijer: walkthrough videos and accurate photos help buyers and tenants in Singapore shortlist without crossing for every viewing. See my listing checklist.
  • Cross-border websites: a section for Singapore customers with travel, payment and booking details, linked properly to your Malaysian pages. My cross-border guide covers the setup.
  • AI phone and email automation: customers greeted in their language, questions about checkpoint timing, parking and currency answered consistently, and appointments booked with border travel time in mind.
  • Marketplace selling: separate Singapore and Malaysia shops on Shopee, Lazada and Carousell, kept in sync by automation.
  • Shoot production with crews and talent from both sides of the Causeway.

Practical notes

  • State clearly whether you charge in ringgit or Singapore dollars, and which is binding.
  • Separate local phone numbers or WhatsApp lower the barrier for customers on each side.
  • Personal data from Singapore customers is covered by Singapore's PDPA when you collect it there; Malaysian data by Malaysia's PDPA. Follow the stricter practice.
  • Do not promise travel times or RTS Link opening dates in marketing until they are confirmed.

Across the border: Woodlands, Singapore. Back to Malaysia.
